Finding a job is the final task a college student must complete. It is stressful, time consuming and something that will potentially shape the rest of your life. So...how do you do it?

When thinking of how to answer that question, I thought of the movie, the Pursuit of Happyness. There are three key pieces of advice that can set you apart from other candidates on your way to your dream job.

Be determined and a little annoying- Will Smith waited outside that office everyday hoping to get at least five minutes with one of the guys working there. He waited for an opportunity until, finally, someone saw his dedication and gave him a chance.

Find something that sets you apart- In this movie, rubix cubes had just come out and only few people could figure out how to solve them. Will Smith was one of those few, so when one of the top executives in the company was struggling, he took that as a chance to prove himself.

Make connections with people in your field of work- Will Smith went places he knew the people would be and formed relationships. Nowadays you can add people on Linkedin and use connections you make at school, so this is easier.

These are important things to remember when searching for a job because you need effort and action to back up your resume. You need to be qualified, but also prove that your want THIS job not just any job.

Employers are looking for people who want to be part of their company. People who want to be successful and show dedication. If you find ways to demonstrate those qualities and take steps to qualify yourself for the position the odds of getting the job are higher. Good Luck!
